VINEYARD: The estate is located in a very stony part of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape area, where you can find the famous galets roules. A large part of the vineyard is located on the famous plateau de Cabrires, near Chateau Montredon. Grapes are sourced from the following sites: lieu-dits: Tresquoy, Cabrieres (galets roules); lieu-dit: Bois Dauphins (sandy soil); and lieu-dits Palestor, la Roquette, Pied Long, Pignan.
VINIFICATION: Manual grape harvest and grape selection. Maceration of 21 to 24 days. Aging regimen of 70% in stainless steel vats, 30% in new barrels.
TASTING NOTES: Nose full of fruit and spices. The mouth is fleshy with notes of red and black fruits enhanced with very fine tannins.
PRESS/REVIEWS: Deep crimson. A complex, expansive bouquet evokes smoky red and blue fruits, potpourri, licorice, game and garrigue. Stains the palate with sweet boysenberry, black raspberry and lavender pastille flavors sharpened by building spice and mineral notes. Finishes with strong tenacity, a touch of smoked meat and youthfully gripping tannins.
Alexandre Favre started his vintner's training in Orange at the age of 15, receiving his diploma in 2001. As his father was battling with health problems in 2002, he took over the responsibility for the entire domaine at the tender age of 20. Today he still operates the entire estate himself.
The domaine has 40 hectares of red grapes and 5 hectares for white grapes and is just outside the center of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Chante Cigale is one of Chateauneuf-du-Pape's leading domaines for the production of white wine. The varieties of white grapes grow in the lieu-dits of Les Galimardes to the south and Palestor to the north. The estate's 45 different plots are scattered across the entire region. Many of them are located in the lieux-dits of Rayas and Pignan in its eastern sector, where the soil is mainly sandy, with some loamy spots." -SevenFifty
