The Tobia cru is named for a biologist who lived and worked in the area in the 1850s. Tobia are the oldest vines on the property, about 45 years old. The vineyard is towards the bottom of the hill (where’s the winery and younger vines are closer to the top). The vineyard faces N-NE and is at about 200 meters. The soil composition in Tobia is unique within their site, in that there are higher concentrations of clay than the usual chalky, calcareous soil that dominates the rest of the property.
