Alder Springs is located in a small valley in the far north of Mendocino County California in an area most deemed too cold to ripen wine grapes.  Yet Stu Bewley turned his eyes to this land after cashing out of his California Cooler brand (the first wine cooler in America), and decided to do the impossible.  Along the way he invented new methods to deal with frost, built terraces into the hillsides, created one of the most diverse collections of wine grapes in North America, and did it all while farming meticulously and organically by hand.  A quick search for "Alder Springs Vineyard" will reveal a who's who of the greatest modern American winemakers sourcing fruit from this vineyard, and, with the vineyard expected to shut down after 2026, an opportunity to taste something from this hallowed site is not to be missed.
